Up for sale is this really cool looking vintage "Scallop Shell Serving Spoon w/ Sterling Silver Collar & Mother of Pearl Handle" . I am no expert on the subject but from what I researched it appears to me that people who have listed the item as "Sterling Silver Serving Spoon with Mother of Pearl Handle" assume the whole spoon is sterling silver just because the ferrule/collar has 'sterling' marked on it. In my opinion, if the spoon itself was made of 'sterling silver' it would have been stamped somewhere visible on the stem of the spoon. Since 'sterling' does not appear on the stem of this spoon, you are only receiving a sterling silver ferrule/ collar which attaches the mother of pearl handle to the stem of the spoon. The spoon measures 9" long x 2 3/4" wide with a securely attached handle but does have a very minute bit of movement. Check out the bowl design of the spoon which resembles a scallop shell.
